Dryers
The perfect compliment to that new washing machine you just installed is a matching dryer to finish your clothes cleaning chores. While each of these machines can be purchased separately, there are a few advantages to buying your washer and dryer in a set. Aesthetically it is good to have your appliances match in appearance. Also when you get them as a set you can save on delivery charges by having it all brought to you at once. There are special warranties that can be purchased that cover both machines for replacement parts and repairs at a lower rate than by obtaining the warranties separately.
Clothes dryers all have a very basic setup. Air is pulled in from the front and heated. It is then forced into the chamber where your clothes are. A belt on a pulley that keeps the chamber rolling operates this simple tumbler. This tumbling action mixes the hot air in with the clothes and evaporates the water out of them before being sucked out the vent in the back of the dryer. The fan and the tumbler are both run off the single motor.
Your major difference is that some dryers heat the air with electric heating coils and gas powered dryers heat it with flame.
Of the many manufacturers of dryers, the Big Four; Maytag, Kenmore, Whirlpool and General Electric, all run professional repair services on their equipment. By purchasing one of the name brand dryers you are assuring yourself that whenever you need repairs done, they will be accomplished with quality original factory parts. These companies all require appliance repairmen to take special courses in the details of their equipment before being allowed to advertise their ability to do warranty covered repairs to the specific brand. This is to make sure you will get a long and useful life out of your home appliance purchase. They may cost a bit more initially but when you compare that to the cost of replacing a "cheaper" brand you will still be saving money.
One thing you can do to aid in extending the life of your dryer is to do a periodic cleaning of the inside of the machine. This is more than just removing the lint from the filter in the drying chamber. Due to the heat produced and the moisture created by evaporating water from your clothes as well as the natural "linting" from your clothes, you will want to make sure the pulleys for the belts and the rolling shaft are oiled and the exhaust vent is clear.
